ABOUT

ABOUT WHAT I DO

I grew up with horses - and have been involved in various areas of the equine industry most of my life including: starting and pre-training of thoroughbreds and sport horses, schooling, stable management and post injury care.  Having first come across ConTact C.A.R.E in 2019 I was so impressed by how gentle and effective it was, that I immediately started training. Now Equine and Human qualified, I have also attended courses in Bovine and Canine - each species has a unique approach due to their nature.  I love helping horses and riders become more comfortable, then enjoying the flow on effects of better physical performance and general relationships.

ConTact C.A.R.E - Flinchlock Release is a gentle yet highly effective Martial Arts based discipline created here in New Zealand by Dale W Speedy and Kym Summers.  Originally discovered on horses it was later developed to include people and other vertebrates.  ConTact C.A.R.E recognises the skeleton has its own self defence system that acts independently and engages when a bone is hit by surprise.  When a bone receives a surprise impact a Flinchlock occurs, causing that bone to become immobile and heavy, these heavy bones create a compensatory workload that over time will cause discomfort, or deficit in perception.  It is the compensation one feels not the Flinchlock. Practitioners are trained to identify stillness in the skeleton - and to release the bones that are causing discomfort in the body elsewhere, we also have an understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine to relate back to the muscles and organs that may also be effected.  Releasing a Flinchlock is gentle and safe - there is no manipulation or force.  It is a revolutionary way for horse and rider to improve comfort, performance and relate better to each other.   ConTact C.A.R.E may be helpful with concussion (horse or rider), pain issues, poor travellers, transitions and lead changes, behavioural issues, skin conditions, hoof problems and much more!  Go to Examples to see a few of the horses I have worked on.
